By James Folk, principal software engineer and founder of NJLIGames Ltd (building software on Long Island since 2015). Vagaro, Booksy and GlossGenius prices below were read directly from support.vagaro.com, biz.booksy.com and glossgenius.com/pricing on September 14, 2026 and are re-checked quarterly. Our own prices are published in full on our pricing page.
If all you need is booking, use a platform
Say this plainly first, because it is true and it would be dishonest to bury it under a comparison table. If your business does not need a real marketing website beyond a place to book an appointment, Vagaro or Booksy is cheaper, live faster, and comes with a marketplace listing that can bring you clients you would not otherwise find. That is a real advantage a site of ours does not have.
| Platform | Base price | Additional staff | Card processing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vagaro | $23.99 / mo (US, limited time; one calendar included) | $10 / mo per calendar, up to 7, then free | 2.29% to 3.5% + $0.19, by volume |
| Booksy | $29.99 / mo | $20 / mo per staff member | 2.49% + $0.10 to 2.69% + $0.30, by method |
| GlossGenius Standard | $28 / mo ($24 billed annually) | Not published per seat; higher tiers add staff seats | 2.6% flat, every card transaction |
| GlossGenius Gold | $56 / mo ($48 billed annually) | Not published per seat; higher tiers add staff seats | 2.6% flat, every card transaction |
None of these charge a real per-booking fee on the base plan. Vagaro's Fill My Books and Booksy's Boost do add something closer to that, a booking fee or a 30 percent commission on a new client's first visit, but only while that specific growth feature is switched on. Leave it off and the charge goes with it.
If a fast, cheap booking calendar with a marketplace listing is the whole job, one of these is very likely the right answer, and we would rather tell you that than take your money for something you did not need.
The comparison that actually matters: one system, or two
Most businesses in this position do not want booking instead of a website, they want both. That changes the real question from "Pro versus a platform" to "one system at $275, or a $175 site plus a platform stapled on top of it." Here is that math for an owner plus two providers over three years, site included on both sides.
| Path | Monthly, 3 staff | Cash over 3 years | Systems |
|---|---|---|---|
| $175 site + Vagaro | $218.99 | $7,884 | Two, two logins |
| $175 site + GlossGenius Gold | $231.00 | $8,316 | Two, two logins |
| $175 site + Booksy | $244.99 | $8,820 | Two, two logins |
| NJLIGames Pro | $275.00 | $9,900 | One |
That is a gap of $1,080 to $2,016 over three years, roughly 30 to 55 dollars a month, once you were already going to pay for a real site. We are not going to pretend the two-system path is more expensive than it is. The question is whether one login, one design, and everything in one place is worth that difference to you, not whether the platform is secretly a bad deal.
What the extra 30 to 55 dollars actually buys
- One login instead of two. No separate booking account to manage, cancel, or explain to a new hire.
- The booking flow looks like your brand, not a Vagaro or Booksy widget dropped into the page, and not a client leaving your site to book on someone else's marketplace page.
- Member logins and gated content. This is not a cheaper way to book, it is something the platforms do not sell at any price: client accounts, saved history, and content only signed-in clients can see, all in the same system as the booking itself.
- Client data lives in one place. Not split between your site's contact form and a separate platform's client list.
- No marketplace commission to weigh turning on later. Growth stays yours, cost and benefit both, instead of a feature that takes a cut of every new client it brings you.
If none of that matters to your business yet, the honest answer is to keep the platform and skip Pro. This section is not a sales pitch for people who do not need it.
The part nobody puts in a pricing table
Every one of these platforms, including ours, needs a card processor if you take payment at the time of booking, a deposit or a no-show fee. Visa and Mastercard's cut is roughly 2.3 to 3.5 percent no matter who built the site, so that piece of the math is close to a wash between every option here.
A platform is also a rental. If Vagaro or Booksy changes its pricing, and every platform on this page has changed its base price within the past two years, you pay the new number or move your calendar, client list, and booking history somewhere else. A site we build you is yours: on the monthly plan we host it, and if you want to own it outright, that is $3,800 once plus $25 a month for hosting, the same arrangement as our Wix comparison walks through for a brochure site. That is a real consideration, but it is a risk, not a certain cost, and we would rather you weigh it honestly against the $30 to $55 a month than have us inflate it.
Who should use a booking platform alone, honestly
- You are one person, or close to it, and staff-count pricing is not going to bite you soon.
- A real marketing website is not something you need or want right now.
- You want to be discoverable in a marketplace app where people already search for a stylist or a trainer near them.
- You need booking live this week, not this month.
- You are still finding out whether the business needs online booking at all.
If that is you, Vagaro at $23.99 for a solo provider is genuinely hard to beat, and we will say so to anyone who asks.
When one system is the right call
- You already want, or already have, a real site. The comparison that matters is the marginal cost over that site, not Pro's sticker price against a platform's.
- You want the booking flow to be yours. Your brand, not a marketplace widget, and no commission feature standing between a new client and your calendar.
- You want member logins or gated content. A platform does not sell this at any price.
- The booking flow is not generic. Deposits by service type, intake forms, membership logic, anything past a standard appointment.
- You have staff, or you will. The gap between one system and two narrows the more staff you add, because the platform side of the two-system path keeps growing while Pro stays flat.
Common questions
Is there a booking website without per booking fees?
Yes. NJLIGames Pro is a flat $275 a month with no per-booking or per-user fee, regardless of staff count. Vagaro and Booksy also do not charge a fee on their base subscription for a normal booking, so the honest per-booking-fee risk on either side is small; it mainly shows up as an optional growth feature you can simply leave off.
Should I just use a booking platform like Vagaro or Booksy instead of a website?
If a real marketing website is not something you need or want, yes. A booking platform alone is cheaper, live faster, and includes a marketplace listing. Use one if you are solo or close to it, your booking needs are standard appointments, and you are fine sending clients to a profile page instead of your own site.
What is cheaper, NJLIGames Pro or a website plus a booking platform?
A website plus a bolted-on platform, by roughly 30 to 55 dollars a month for a small team, once you are paying for both a real site and booking. Pro replaces both with one system: one login, one design, member logins and gated content the platforms do not offer at all, and client data that lives in one place instead of split across two vendors.
Does a custom booking site still have card processing fees?
If you take payment at the time of booking, yes, on any platform, including ours. Card networks charge roughly 2.3 to 3.5 percent no matter who builds the site. The $275 flat rate is what we charge for the platform itself; it does not make Visa and Mastercard's cut disappear.
What does the NJLIGames Pro plan include?
Everything in the $175 Monthly plan, plus online booking and scheduling, member logins and gated content, database-backed features, and backend hosting, all for one flat $275 a month with no per-booking or per-user fee. The member logins and gated content are not something a booking platform sells at any price; that is capability, not just a cheaper way to book.
